Cardiff and Vale College Sport student Hannah Harvey has won a gold and two silver medals at the World Kickboxing Championships.

Hannah, 17 and from Barry, has been kickboxing since she was five years old, travelled out to the Italian city of Pisa for the championships. There she won gold in the team category and silvers in the points and continuous categories.

“I felt very proud,” Hannah said. “I’ve been to the World Championships and won gold medals before but this was different, and I won in different categories. This year the championships were bigger and there were more people – it was very exciting!”

Hannah has been kickboxing since she “was tiny,” she said. “When I was five I was bullied and my dad brought me into kickboxing to do something about it,” Hannah explained.

She enjoys her Level 3 Sport at CAVC. “It’s really good – I’m right up to date with all of my assignments,” Hannah said. “Last year I did the Level 2 course and wanted to progress: I want to work in a leisure centre in the future and carry on with my kickboxing job on the side.”

CAVC Head of Tourism, Hospitality, Sport and Public Service James Young said: “Having won gold and silver medals in World Championship kickboxing – more than once – is an amazing achievement. Hannah is a real success and we’re all very proud of her.”
