Cardiff and Vale College Football Academy scores a winner in China

Cardiff and Vale College’s International Department travelled out to China to organise a week of football coaching for high school pupils to coincide with the recent China Cup competition.

CAVC Football Academy’s Head of Football Jamie Sherwood delivered the coaching at Liuzhou Number One High School in Guanxi Province, China. The College’s Director of International Development Ian Thomas joined Jamie for an opening ceremony and exchange of Memorandums of Understanding.

There was also a series of meetings to look at establishing programmes to allow Liuzho to progress to Cardiff and Vale College for further study, as well as exploring how the College can support football development in-country.

Liuzhou Number One High School has a strong tradition of delivering football programmes with a number of Regional Championships under its belt. It is keen to further develop its footballing abilities as well as boosting international study opportunities for its learners.

The intensive week of training saw Jamie coaching on pitch from Monday to Friday with double session each day, putting both the Girls and Boys squads through their paces. Jamie also oversaw the training of Liuzhou local coaches with more than 20 attending the sessions throughout the week.

Jamie’s coaching was extremely well received and he will be instrumental further developing a strong relationship between CAVC and Liuzhou. This relationship will see students and staff developing their education via exchange and pathway programmes in English in the classroom and football on the pitch.

The next stage of the partnership will see an integration of culture, content and delivery models. The CAVC Football Academy will support the development of a robust and dynamic programme which will enable Liuzhou Number One High School to start recruitment of even more high quality students who have a keen interest in both their education development and their footballing skills.
