Cardiff and Vale College students raise £1,500 for Motor Neurone Disease

A group of four Health and Social Care students from Cardiff and Vale College have raised more than £1,500 for Motor Neurone Disease.

The final tally was more than three times’ their initial target of raising £500 for charity. Charlotte Strongman, Sarah Radford, Tanya McGill and Derydd-Anne Spiller persuaded local businesses in Barry to donate goods or services for a special charity evening raffle.

A band donated their time and local pub The Ship provided a free venue. “We just want to thank all of the local businesses who donated items,” Charlotte said. “We sent out letters and emails and went on visits and everyone was so generous.”

The students organised the charity event as part of their Welsh Baccalaureate. They chose Motor Neurone Disease as a family friend of Charlotte’s had passed away from the disease.

“We thought we were going to be out of our depth but it was really exciting and it all came together really well,” Charlotte said. “We’re extremely grateful to everybody who took part and helped.”
